December 19, 2015 - Christmas Baskets

Each December the Pleasant Grove Lions Club puts together and delivers Christmas food baskets to our neighbors who could benefit.  This was started back in December 2009 and has continued ever since.  This year we were able to deliver 22 Christmas baskets.  This is one of the various projects the Pleasant Grove Lions club participate in each year in making a difference in our community.  All moneys that we receive from fund raising 100% of it goes back into the community.  None of it is used for administrative use.  So whenever you donate to your local lions club you can be rest assured that all moneys will be used in your community.  That is a real blessing.  If you ever have questions about the Pleasant Grove Lions Club or Lions Club in general you can email us at pglionsclub@gmail.com or contact phone numbers listed on this blog.

The Lions Clubs in the Utah and Nebo County area enjoy the privilege to volunteer in vision screening for kids.  This time we were at Walden Academy in Provo.  Lions from the Pleasant Grove, Payson and Nephi Lions Clubs.  If you have children in a school that you would liked screened encourage the school to call 801-785-2669 to schedule a screening or questions.

Report from schoarship winners - October 1, 2015

Pleasant Grove Lions Club enjoyed a special evening on Oct. 1st. Three young women from Pleasant Grove High School reported on their experiences of the past summer as they were delegates to special leadership organizations. Gracie Johnson attended HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Camp) as a Sophomore. Only two students from each school in the state are chosen to be part of this experience.

Madeline Dupaix and Kate Petty were among the five girls chosen to attend Girls State this past summer. All three girls reported on their experiences and shared their impressions and some of what they learned.
These girls are vibrant, confident and capable and all feel that their opportunity to attend these special camps have helped them to develop their abilities and maturity. The Lions Club is grateful to be able to help financially somewhat so deserving students can have these opportunities.

Vision Screening for Kids, September 28, 2015

The Pleasant Grove Lions Club once again had the privilege of doing vision screening for kids.  This time it was at Lakeview Academy in Saratoga Springs  Milt, James, Cathy, Darlene and Jo all helped in the screening process.  James and Cathy from the Nephi Lions Club joined with us in this effort.

We use a hand held camera that checks kid’s eyes for 9 different conditions.  Either they pass or are referred to see a health care practitioner.  This really helps in the screening for children’s vision as the eye chart only checks for acuity.  This is a wonderful volunteer service that Lions Clubs can perform in their communities.  Charter schools, pre-schools and health fairs is a great way we have of checking children’s eyes for programs thus parents can help resolve the eye issues early before it is too late.

Pleasant Grove Jubilee Days - Sept. 12, 2015

Each year at Pleasant Grove Jubilee Days the Pleasant Grove Lions Club makes and sells scones to raise moneys for student scholarships and to help needing people with vision needs (eye glasses, etc.).  We are grateful to help in our community in the programs we support.  While at the Jubilee festivities we also performed 59 vision screening and referred 6 people to follow-up with a health practitioner.  Below are some of the pictures we took to help us all remember the difference we can make in our community.
