Fall 2017 Fund Raser

Each year in late fall we have ordered calendars for friends of the Pleasant Grove Lions Club.  As the landscape has changed so the need of the paper calendar has diminished.  We have provided information below thanking you for all the support you have given in the past and a way to continue helping us make a difference.  Lions Clubs around the world are celebrating our Centennial Year of Service.  We have 5 area that we focus our service on:

1.  Vision, 2.  Diabetes, 3.  Humanitarian,  4.  Pediatric Cancer and 5.  Environment.  Pleasant Grove Lions also assists when funds permit scholarships in leadership and educational scholarships.

Please join with us as we continue to make a difference in our community and around the world.

Dear Family & Friends of Pleasant Grove Lions Club,

We as members of the Pleasant Grove Lions Club express our appreciation for your support over the years, especially concerning our Community Birthday Calendars. This project has been a major fund raiser for our club, enabling us to offer scholarships to high school students. 

Our club helps with funding Hugh O’Brian Leadership Camps, and Boys State, Girls State candidates. We have offered eye exams and eyeglasses to many in our area who could not otherwise afford them. We also have an eye screening program in which we use a special Spot camera.  We go into the schools and in the community to determine if there is a need to see an eye care professional.

We also try to help families in need by providing a Christmas dinner and serving in other ways. These endeavors have been made possible for our Lions Club because of your support.


We are now becoming aware that many people no longer use a physical calendar, but utilize an electronic device of some kind. Therefore, we have decided that we will discontinue the project of selling the Community Calendars.


The need for funds to continue serving the area communities and the schools is ongoing. Many of you have bought the calendar because of a desire to help these good causes and to support the work of our Lions Club. We could not have done these things without you, and we are very grateful for your loyalty.


Perhaps you could make the season of Thanksgiving your reason to help the Lions Club accomplish our goals of serving others. Together, each of our small efforts can bring great results.

We now would like to ask for a financial contribution from you. Perhaps an annual contribution similar to your purchase of the calendar would work.  However, we would accept donations, in any amount, any time of the year.  Would you consider putting the Lions Club on your list of causes you want to support?  If you have questions please call (801) 913-2533.

Pleasant Grove 79th Birthday (October 24, 2017)

Happy 79^th Birthday.   October 24, 2017

The Lions Club has had a wonderful 79 years of service.  Being a Lions is a great way to serve your community and play it forward.  The Pleasant Grove Lions Club is 1 of over 46,000 clubs around the world.  There are so many resources that Lions Clubs International has to offer.  So join your local Lions Club and help your community be a better place to live and help others in need.  Check out www.lionsclubs.org and see what lions are doing around the world.  You can do projects here locally and find a way to focus your passion to improve your community and lift the hands in need.

SALT LAKE LIONS CLUB HOSTS 2016 DAYS OF '47 ROYALTY

Each July the Salt Lake Lions Club invites the Days of 47 Royalty for lunch. They share a message and some of their pioneer history. They conclude by sharing some of their talents.   Pleasant Grove Lions, Jo and Milt Taylor and  Darlene Seely,  were able to  the meet the 2016 Royalty at  Cafe Madrid in Holiday, Utah.  Milt and Jo Taylor are former members of the Salt Lake Lions Club.

LIONS SUPPORT CAMP KESEM 5K FUND RAISER

The Pleasant Grove Lions Club supported a Camp Kesem  5K race fundraiser by supplying cases of bottled water for the runners.   The 5k race was held on Friday, June 17 at the Lindon City Park.  Funds generated from the race help in providing a tuition free camp for children whose parents have been diagnosed with cancer.  The camp is sponsored by passionate college students who are dedicated to help children through and beyond their parents cancer.   "Where there is a need, there is a Lion."

COMMUNITY S.A.F.E. FAIR SAT. AUGUST 27

Pleasant Grove Lions Club will do FREE vision screenings for pre-school children. 
The vision screening indicates if a child's vision is adequate or if follow-up care is
needed from an eye care specialist.  

LIONS LOVE STRAWBERRY DAYS

The Pleasant Grove Lions Club participated in the 2016 Strawberry Days' parade  Saturday, June 18.
Two of our scholarship recipients Arielle and Lexi  joined us in the parade. They held  signs letting the public know about the free vision screening we do for pre-schoolers.

Cedar Hills Parade-June 4, 2016

Our club participated in the Cedar Hills parade on June 4, 2016.  Three of our scholarship recipients walked along the parade route hold posters about Lions Kids Sight program and Lions Club International celebrating 100 years in 1917.   Where there is a need there is a Lion.  

May 5, 2016 Humanitarian Award Night

The Pleasant Grove Lions Club awarded its annual Humanitarian Award at a special meeting May 5, 2015. This year's recipient is Marsha Skidmore from American Fork. For 15 years, since the inception of the project, Marsha has organized a humanitarian group which meets once a week to sew quilts, little girls dresses, little boys shorts, diapers, baby nightgowns, etc. Much of the fabric is donated by individuals and local business. They collect materials to assemble school bags for children, the new-born kits, feminine hygiene kits for women, simple toys, soccer balls, etc.

All this is gathered and packed into large containers to be shipped to countries where the need is great. A professional golfers association has paid for the containers to be shipped and have done so for six years.

There are over a million orphans in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Marsha showed a video in which some of the kits were distributed and which portrayed the people happily receiving these donations. In addition, natural disasters give another opportunity to provide help. One thousand quilts were made in under two weeks to meet a challenge given by Elder Jeffrey Holland to help Chile after a disaster in that country.

This last year, over 800 school kits were assembled. Over 700 little dresses have been made so far this current year. Volunteer hours exceeded 50,000 hours. Many suitcases for missionaries have been donated. The charity organization Eyes for Zimbabwe has worked with the group to distribute needed eyeglasses. With the last shipment to that country went a great number of used eyeglasses collected by local Lions clubs. The video showed people receiving them with big smiles.
After Marsha's very interesting presentation, the Pleasant Grove Lions Club gave her the 2016 Humanitarian Award and also a box with 100 toy cars, 500 pair of used eyeglasses, and a check to help purchase supplies.
